Okay so get this. My grandparents also live with us and my grandma has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. But all she has been talking about the last several months is getting a perm. Yall. A perm. Is that not the CUTEST?!

So after asking around I finally found someone who was willing to come to our house and give my Gammy a cut and a perm. Well as the days got closer for her perm appointment, it dawned on me. DATE NIGHT!!!

Oh yes. I did. Not only did she get her perm, she got her makeup and nails done too. We even got her into a cute little outfit! My grandpa (we call him Poppy) even put on his “fancy” pajamas that look like a suit. OH MY GOD, HOW PRESH! I was so excited for this date night for them and I know they were too.

Okay so backtrack to the day before their date, I went to Hobby Lobby, the holy grail of decor; my happy place, and got place settings. We’re talking chargers, dinner plates, appetizer plates, dessert bowls, and Mr. and Mrs. Champagne glasses. There were tea light candles, big candles, rose petals, and a beautiful bouquet of roses for Poppy to give Gammy. My husband even picked up a room divider to give some separation between the table and kitchen to give them the real deal experience.

Alright, fast forward to dinner time. We did a “big reveal” to surprise Poppy with Gammy’s makeover. It was a-freakin-dorable!!! His eyes lit up the moment he saw her and gave her the sweetest kiss. After sixty-five years of marriage they still love and cherish each other so deeply.

At dinner my mother-in-law and I wore all black to act as servers for them. I put together a menu and printed it out. We had appetizers, dinner, and dessert and their choice of beverage. I even went as far as to get multiple dinner options all within our Italian theme. My husband had Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin playing in the background. Truly immersed them into the fine dining experience.

The laughs they shared and memories they made, made the entire thing worth it. The smiles on their faces were everything my heart needed. Even with my dad’s (their son’s) terminal diagnosis and all of them living with my husband and I, I thought they needed this little break from reality. They deserved it and they deserve so much more.

Life is messy but the little things like this make all the difference in the world.

Stay True,

Hails
